What format DVD do I buy to use with my projector? Widescreen or Fullscreen?

All current model JVC projectors have native HDTV widescreen projection chips and are ideal for projecting movies that are in the widescreen format. It is important to recognize that there are several types of widescreen formats. The HDTV standard widescreen is 1.78:1 aspect ratio (16 x 9)--the native aspect ratio of the projector. Movies are often shot in a wider format such as 2.35:1, and will exhibit a black cropping on a normal HDTV screen. This is normal. If a "fullscreen" movie (4 x 3, 1.33:1 aspect ratio)is projected on the same projector, then there will be black cropping on the left and right sides of the screen.  Fullscreen versions of movies that were originally produced in widescreen are cropped to fit a 4 x 3 screen, often losing important content in the process.  With a widescreen projector, you should always specify widescreen content when given the choice.
